Image: Kia America Celebrates National Expansion Of Ionna Charging Network

IONNA – the joint venture backed by top automakers including BMW, General Motors, Kia, and Honda – has recently declared its move from public beta testing to a full-scale national launch.

The IONNA trial phase kicked off in late 2024, during which automaker vehicle fleets and everyday drivers contributed to stress-testing the network. Over 4,400 charging sessions were logged on more than 80 different vehicle models. During this period, the charging stations delivered almost 63 thousand kilowatts of energy. With its enhanced hardware and software, IONNA is set to roll out nationwide with plans for over 1,000 sites to open in 2025. Its new headquarters and Customer Experience Lab in Durham, NC, will serve as a central hub dedicated to continuous testing and improvements, underscoring its commitment to a driver-first experience.

IONNA aims to establish a new benchmark for interoperability and simplicity in 2025. Its Plug & Charge technology is already operational and will be further optimized with features like smart reservations, AI-powered routing, and in-car payments.

One of IONNA's objectives is to simplify the experience of owning and driving an electric vehicle. We have an excellent selection of electric Kia vehicles, so visit our dealership today to check out our inventory.
