Joe Myers Kia Previews the New Sorento

Kia's got a lot to be excited about this year. With several new or all-new models equipped with stronger, more fuel efficient engines, new interior and exterior styling and amenities, and the same affordable pricing customers have come to know and love, it's bound to be a banner year for the South Korean automaker. One of the most anticipated models, the 2014 Kia Sorento, returns after undergoing a complete redesign, with over 80 percent of the 2014 Sorento's parts being either all-new or significantly redesigned. With a more refined exterior, overhauled 3.3-liter V6 engine and the first of Kia's line to feature the revamped UVO voice-activated infotainment and telematics system, the new Sorento is without a doubt a top contender in its segment, even when considering other compact crossovers like the Honda CR-V or Hyundai Santa Fe.

The 2014 Kia Sorento is available in Huston in LX, EX, SX and SX-L trim levels. This affordable five-passenger crossover SUV has dropped the previous year's underpowered four-cylinder in favor of a stronger 2.4-liter engine that delivers 191 horsepower and 181 lb.-ft. of torque. While this is a welcome improvement over the 2013 Sorento's entry-level engine, what's most impressive is the redesigned 3.3-liter V6 with 290 horses and 252 lb.-ft. of torque. With all of that power under the hood, Kia Sorento owners in Houston will find that a low seven-second time is the norm when going from naught to sixty miles per hour - quite fast for its segment. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard, but shoppers can opt for all-wheel drive for a few dollars more.

In our 2014 Kia Sorento review we found the cabin to be comfortable and extremely well-equipped, no matter the trim level. Standard and optional features include: full power accessories, rear parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, heated/ventilated front seats, a rearview camera, a split-fold rear seat, the UVO voice-activated infotainment system, a 10-speaker Infinity audio system and much more.
