The Touring model receives Autonomous Emergency Braking, HID headlights, a Lane Keep Assist system, Forward Collision Warning system, a wireless phone charger, and adaptive cruise control standard. Also, the EX model gets a standard auto-dimming rearview mirror and the Advanced Technology package now includes the Lane Keep Assist system.

Kia Niro Trims

Kia offers the Niro in five trim levels: the FE, the LX, the EX, the new Touring Graphite Edition, and the range-topping Touring trims. The base FE model is equipped better than most top-tier models from other brands. It is home to 16-inch alloy wheels, selectable drive modes, adjustable front seats, automatic headlights, and a dual-zone automatic climate control.

The FE's tech department receives Apple and Android smartphone integration, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment interface, an Uvo eServices app suite, a USB port, and a four-speaker sound system. The LX trim benefits from the FE's standard features plus rear LED tail lights, keyless ignition and entry, roof rails, a rear center armrest, and an underfloor storage tray. An available Advanced Technology package gives the LX leather-upholstered gear shift knob and steering wheel, LED daytime running lights, and front fog lights.

Stepping up to the EX earns you the LX's standard and optional equipment alongside heated side mirrors, cloth and leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rear air-conditioning vents, heated front seats, a high-gloss black upper console, and an extra USB port.

A Premium Package packing a sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen display, ventilated front seats, xenon headlights, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, LED map lights, navigation, an eight-speaker Harmon Kardon system, a parking system, and wireless phone charging is available to the EX.

The Touring Graphite Edition has all the EX's standard features and adds a trim-exclusive glossy black 18-inch wheels, metallic-colored front grille, Platinum Graphite paint, and glossy black roof rails. The new model also provides an 8-inch touchscreen, a Harman Kardon audio system, a navigation system, and a 10-way power driver's seat.

The Touring gets everything but the Touring Graphite Edition's trim-exclusive features standard for the 2018 model year. It also adds 18-inch wheels and the contents of the advanced driver assist safety suite.

Engine, Transmission & MPG Specs

2018 Kia NiroA hybrid powertrain consisting of a 43 horsepower, 125-lb-ft electric motor and a 104-hp, 109-lb-ft 1.6-liter I-4 engine produces a combined output of 139 horses and 195 lb-ft of torque on the 2018 Kia Niro. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic that links to the front wheels is the only transmission.

The EPA estimates that the base Kia Niro FE delivers an impressive 52/49 mpg city/highway while the mid-level Niros return 51/46 mpg. A fully-loaded Touring model gives 46/40 mpg because of the additional equipment. The 2018 Kia Niro makes a zero to 60 mph dash in about 8.7 seconds and stops from the same speed in 134 feet.

Safety and Protection

2018 Kia Niro SafetyOn the safety front, the latest Kia Niro provides a suite of advanced driver assist safety features that brings together Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Pedestrian Detection, and adaptive cruise control systems.

The contents of the said suite are standard on the Touring model but optional on the rest. The EX and Touring models get blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert and Lane Change Assist as standard. Additionally, front and rear parking sensors are free superlatives on the Touring model, as is a rear-view mirror to all models.
