What's New For the 2020 Kia Forte?

The Kia Forte, a sedan body style available with a 7-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission, has received high ratings this year. Cars.com gives it a 4.8/5 rating, while U.S. News & World Reports rates the Forte as 8.5/10. The Forte is also a great gas saver, getting 31 mpg/city and 41/hwy. The new Forte has the features desired in a sports compact sedan. There is state-of-the-art connectivity, advanced technology, space for everyone, and modern, sleek styling.

The 2020 Forte has several new sporty trim options such as the GT Line that comes with 201 horsepower turbocharged engine, up from 147 horsepower in the 2019 Forte. With the discontinuation of the S trim on the 2019 model, there are new design features on the 2020 GT trims such as gloss black outside mirrors, a front grille with red accents, sport side sills, and other details. The 18-inch wheels for the GT trim are a new feature.

The 2020 Forte is made with a 54% higher-strength steel that provides better stability, protection, and a more comfortable ride. To add to the comfort, the new Forte's interior has dual-zone temperature controls, ventilated and heated seats, ample legroom in both front and rear, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat.

Which Trims & Features are Available in 2020?

There are five trims available with the 2020 Forte: FE, LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT. On all these levels, certain features are standard:

  1. 15.3 cubic feet of interior cargo capacity
  2. Advanced Airbags (also called dual airbags since they can deploy with a lesser force for children)
  3. Front and Rear Crush Zones (Areas designed to crumple and absorb some of the effects of an impact, thus reducing injuries)
  4. 8-inch touchscreen display

A Perfect Blend of Power and Fuel Efficiency

All trims except the Kia Forte GT have a 2.0-liter I-4 multi-port injection standard engine. This engine is rated at 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The Forte GT comes with a 1.6-liter I-4 turbocharged engine with 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The Forte GT gets 27 mpg on city streets and 35 on the hwy. The other trims get 29 in the city and 40 mpg on the highway.  The FE trim comes with a six-speed manual transmission and a CV transmission is optional. The GT transmission choices include the six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Safety Features in the Forefront for 2020

Standard safety features on all trims of the Kia Forte include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA). This feature can brake the car automatically in certain situations, preventing some frontal collisions. Other standard features designed for safety include Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Driver Attention Warning, a system that detects inattentive or drowsy driving. An alert sounds, coupled with a warning message on the instrument panel.

In addition to the standard safety features, the GT-line and GT have Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning, and Blind-Spot Collision Warning. The Forte GT has a High Beam Assist, as well.
