What's New For the 2020 Kia Sorento?
Ever since its introduction, the Sorento was proof positive that Kia understood the meaning of value in a mid-size SUV. Even though this model has been upgraded several times and is now in its third generation, it's still one of the most affordable and well-rounded crossovers on the market.
Most of the recently added new features were introduced last year, including an eight-speed automatic transmission to pair with the V6 engine, the addition of the third-row seat, and the discontinuation of the turbo engine.
Only a few minor adjustments were made for 2020. The exterior lighting has been redesigned, and the front and rear bumpers have been reshaped. Also, for 2020, the EX Sport and SX Limited trims have been discontinued.
2020 Kia Sorento Has Abundant Features
The 2020 Sorento is available in a total of four trims. The base version, known as the L trim, comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, manually adjustable front seats, cloth upholstery, and a 7-inch screen display. Bluetooth, smartphone app integration, a USB port, and a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio are also included.
The LX adds on roof rails, a sound-dampening windshield, front seatback pockets, and additional USB ports. With the larger V6 engine, this trim also gets a power-adjustable driver's seat and dual-zone climate control.
The S trim boasts black-painted wheels and upgraded exterior trim accents. This version also comes with the LX's optional Convenience package that includes heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The range-topping EX trim comes with all of the features of the S trim and adds on 18-inch wheels, foglights, leather upholstery throughout the cabin, a power liftgate, and an upgraded driver information display. All 2020 Sorento trims seat seven, and the rear seats can be folded flat to open up 38 cubic feet of cargo space.
Kia Sorento Performance
The standard engine on the 2020 Sorento is a 2.4L four-cylinder power source that produces a total of 185 horsepower. The 3.3L V6 is optional on the LX trim and standard on the S and EX versions. This engine is rated at 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque, and it's mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. All but the base trim can be ordered with all-wheel drive.
The transmission paired with the V6 engine also has a newly designed gearbox that promises smoother shifting. The all-wheel-drive system includes an electronically lockable 50-50 front-rear torque split, and this gives the driver more control when traveling over low-traction surfaces. The Sorento can be operated in Sport mode, and this helps out with rapid acceleration.
The 2020 Kia Sorento has a Long List of Safety Features
All 2020 Kia Sorento versions are equipped with four-wheel ABS, antilock brakes, front airbags, rear curtain and roof bags, child seat anchors and tethers, child-proof rear door locks, a post-collision safety system, and a rearview camera.
The LX and above trims come with rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. The EX gets the full package of driver aids as standard equipment. This includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and driver attention warning.
