What's New For The 2020 Kia Sportage?

The 2020 model year finds the Kia Sportage in its fourth generation of production. The compact crossover now has standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for smartphone integration, 8-inch touchscreen, driver attention warning, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection.

2020 Sportage Trims & Features

The 2020 Kia Sportage is split into four trims: LX, S, EX, and SX Turbo. The LX trim serves as the base-level model for the Sportage, which starts with features such as woven cloth trim, wireless hands-free connectivity, remote keyless entry, six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, MP3 playback capability, voice recognition, the aforementioned Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a USB port and an audio jack for playing media from portable devices, and the brand-new 8-inch touchscreen.

The S trim is lifted with leatherette seat trim and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. At the EX trim level, the Sportage gets 10-way power with 2-way power lumbar support on the driver's seat, front-seat heating, dual-zone automatic climate control, an upgrade of the remote keyless entry to a smart key system with push-button ignition, and a rear-row USB 2.1 port for fast-charging portable devices.

The top-level SX Turbo gets exclusive leather seat trim, front-seat ventilation (in addition to heating ability), steering-wheel heating, 8-way power on the front passenger seat, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster display, UVO in-car connectivity, wireless charging, auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror, HomeLink for remote-controlling home features like garage doors and security lights, SiriusXM Radio and SiriusXM traffic trial subscriptions, an eight-speaker 320-watt Harman Kardon premium sound system, and 8-inch touchscreen voice-command navigation.

2020 Kia Sportage Horsepower

The LX, S, and EX trims have a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which produces 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The SX Turbo is named after its turbocharged 2.0-liter I4, which produces up to 240 horsepower (237 horsepower with the optional all-wheel drive) and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Each engine is tied to an electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters added on the S and SX Turbo. With the 2.4-liter engine and front-wheel drivetrain, you can achieve the Sportage's peak fuel economy: at 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

In addition to driver attention warning and forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, the 2020 Kia Sportage counts electronic stability control, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, hill start assist control, downhill brake control, lane-keeping assist, a rearview camera, and a six-airbag system among its standard safety features. Security is provided by the combination of the keyless system with an engine immobilizer.

At the S level, expect the addition of blind spot collision warning and rear cross-traffic collision warning. And the SX Turbo is the only trim with a front and rear parking assist system and smart cruise control with stop-and-go technology.
