What's New For the 2021 Kia Sorento?

The Kia Sorento brings an all-new muscular design to the table in 2021. This year, the Sorento also has more mechanical options, and you can choose to get either a traditional gasoline engine or a hybrid engine, including a plug-in variant. The Sorento also has a longer wheelbase in 2021, which gives you more room in all three rows in the cabin and extra cargo space. There are more digital interfaces and premium flourishes throughout the interior. 

Which Trims & Features Are Available in 2021?

There are five trims available on the 2021 Kia Sorento: LX, S, EX, SX, and SX-Prestige. The base LX trim includes an eight-inch display screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration and one USB port. This trim also includes cloth bucket seats, versatile split-folding seats in the second and third rows, and a backup camera.

The second trim, S, features a power-adjustable front passenger seat, parking sensors, automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, and more storage spaces. The S gets 18-inch wheels and rear climate controls. The EX trim adds a remote engine start, exterior accents, a hands-free liftgate, and leather seating.

The next trim up, the SX features a multi-way adjustable front passenger's seat, a 10-speaker sound system, standard navigation, a sun/moonroof, satellite radio, and a wireless charging pad. With the SX Prestige, you get a premium sound system, cooled front seats, and a heated steering wheel. If you opt to get the X-Line appearance package, there are added features, including increased ride height, and standard torque-on-demand all-wheel drive with center locking differential and downhill descent control, exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels, and a bridge-type roof rack. The hybrid powertrain is available on the S and EX trims.

2021 Kia Sorento Powertrain Options

The 2021 Kia Sorento has several engines and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. The base engine is a 2.5L four-cylinder with an output of 191 HP and 182 LB-FT of torque and mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The next engine is a 2.5L turbo engine rated for up to 281 HP and delivers 311 LB-FT of torque, and is connected to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 1.6L turbo hybrid engine is connected to a 44 kW electric motor and can push out 227 HP with a combined fuel economy of 37 miles per gallon. The plug-in hybrid version of the 1.6L turbo is available only in the all-wheel drive configuration and will have a 66.9 kW electric motor and 13.8 kWh battery. This powertrain can put out 261 HP and go 30 miles in only electric mode. Sorento's towing maximum is 3,500 pounds.

Kia Sorento has a bevy of safety and driver-assistance features. Its notable standard safety tools include lane departure warning, driver attention warning, and forward collision avoidance. An eServices system is standard to call for emergency assistance when an airbag deploys. Available driver-assistance and safety technology are abundant, including Safe Exit Assist, Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Curve, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist.
